What is Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by persistence pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity that interferes with an individual’s normal functioning and quality of life.

Symptoms of ADHD

  • Failure to pay close attention to details or make careless mistakes.
  • Difficulty maintaining attention.
  • Failure to finish tasks,
  • Forgetful or lose things easily.
  • Difficulty organizing tasks and activities?
  • Getting restless easily and unable to stay still

How is ADHD diagnosed?

Generally, ADHD symptoms should be present before age 12, and should have lasted at least six months, and interferes with daily function of the patient. The symptoms must be present in at least in two separate settings (usually at home and school and school) or wherever the patient spends significant time outside of home. ADHD can have negative consequences on an individual’s life, such as poor academic performance, difficulty or inability to complete tasks at home , school and at work as well as poor social interactions.

Treatment

Early diagnosis and treatment are recommended. ADHD can effectively be treated with stimulants or non-stimulants and psychotherapy.
